- Adobe is the global standard for electronic document sharing.
Adobe developed the Portable Document Format to standardize electronic document handling. PDF, the file format that carries the business world on its back, is everywhere, from product manuals to legal documents. Despite competition from simpler tools, Reader remains the standard the others are judged against. We looked at the latest version of Reader, Adobe Reader X.
With it you can view and annotate all PDF files, sign documents electronically, and access optional Adobe Online subscription services directly from inside its interface. Reader X's familiar interface opens with a quick-start file manager from which we could open a recent file or log in to an existing Adobe Online account. We clicked Open and browsed to a folder full of PDFs we use for testing.
Reader rendered each document with high detail and faithful color reproduction.
Clicking the Sign icon on Reader's toolbar let us digitally sign documents by adding text or attaching a signature via a wizard. We could also Print our document or e-mail it as an attachment or via Adobe SendNow. We could highlight text, add Sticky Notes, take a Snapshot, and attach Comments. Reader has some extras that stripped-down competitors can't match, such as its Read Out Loud tool, which can read documents to you if you have sound capability. A Tracker tool monitors updates to Reviews and Forms.
Under the Edit menu, entries labeled Protection, Analysis, and Accessibility let us manage security settings, check document accessibility, and analyze data using the Object Data Tool and Geospatial Location Tool.

Reader doesn't lack support, either, starting with the sort of extensive Help file you'd expect from an Adobe product.
Clicking Tools toggles open the online extras. Lighter, simpler tools are available, but Adobe's free reader remains the one to beat. Computer decided to update to this new software version Had to uninstall this am due to inability to save a document I received without starting a paid account. Not what I want I want to be able to open and save a document.
Going back to Version 11 if possible Quite unhappy this moment I have a ton of work to do today and this has put me behind 2 hours already as I have to save a legal document before I can continue. Thanks Adobe This is the first time I've ever submitted an online review.
I created an account specifically for this. User functions are an absolute minimum. You can't even save an individual PDF pages, nor paste pictures from outside sources.
Absolutely peice of sht program. None - does not open the program or a PDF. This version does not even deserve one star! I downloaded Adobe Reader DC from the adobe. It will not open the program or a PDF. Best solution I found on the various forums was to change the security setting in the Adobe Reader preferences.
But how can I do that when the program doesn't even open?
I'm tired of wasting my time troubleshooting something that should be no trouble at all. Good-bye Adobe Reader. Hello, Foxit Reader! In both cases Adobe Reader then refused to either print the completed forms or save them. I actually had to fill out both of them by hand, and then scan them so I would have a permanent recordthus wasting even more of my time.
My experience with Adobe Flash player as well as Reader, and Adobe Acrobat is that it takes very little pride in the quality of its products. Question: How is it that the "professional" review is "excellent" and the actual customer the opposite? Are we missing something?
It's free and fast enough running a SSD so everything's fast. Adobe is probably working on fixing it?
This is the most unstable piece of software on my computer right now - it crashes frequently so saving is more important than ever. The update made the saving process cumbersome by introducing a new buggy UI instead of using the standard windows GUI.
It always directs you to save to the cloud first and doesn't remember your saving preferences. Viewing preferences are also not saved so I have to close side panels and navigation panels each time I open a document - very annoying. Does NOT autosave, does crash to desktop frequently when running multiple open documents. I've lost all sorts of data due to crashes which is lowering my productivity. It is very, very ,very bloated. As large as 3D video games were in the late '90s, early s.
Has processes running in the background to quick start the program because it is so large.

This is huge! I can do the same thing with Fox-it Reader 2. The current version of fox-it is a 40MB install file, so it's bloated too. Adobe and Foxit should make light versions of their PDF readers for people that don't need many of the features the full program has. Or have these features as plugins, so during the installation process, users can choose what features they want, and which they don't. Functionally, a big downgrade from XI. XI was good, fairly quick, fairly flexible except for not being able to underline without giving up a third of your page real-estatedid most of what you need to.
DC, if you're lucky, might open your file after a bit of a wait. The posting of advertisements, profanity, or personal attacks is prohibited.
